Invitation – The Britain-Australia Society West Country Branch – Admiral Arthur Phillip Birthday Commemoration, Friday October 13. 2023

I am pleased to invite you to the 2023 West Country Branch, Britain-Australia Society, Admiral Arthur Phillip Birthday service at St Nicholas Church followed by a reception and lunch at the Bath & County Club, Bath on Friday October 13, 2023.
This year marks the 236th year since the departure of the first fleet, and the founding of modern Australia by Admiral Phillip, who became the first Governor of what was then the colony of New South Wales, and later, the country of Australia. Phillip returned to England to live at Bath, where he died in 1814, and was buried at St Nicholas, Bathampton.

The branch is again proud to host a memorial church service and lunch to commemorate this great achievement and the life of this remarkable man.
Phillip enjoyed his retirement in the beautiful city of Bath enjoying evenings at the Assembly Rooms, Bennet St, and Bath’s other beautiful locations. In 2015 the BAS unveiled an Armillary Sphere memorial at his 200th Anniversary event. This memorial, originally located in the Assembly Rooms garden, is being relocated to the Sydney Gardens in Bath
Invited guests to this year’s service and lunch include The Right Worshipful The Mayor of Bath, The Australian High Commissioner, His Excellency Stephen Smith; The National Society Vice-President, Sir Roger Carrick KCMG LVO; and The National Society Chairman Damien Walsh.
The day will start with tea and coffee at the St Nicholas church hall, Bathampton at 10.30 am followed by the 11.00 am commemorative church service.
