Over 1500 specially invited visitors and around 600 school children took part in the annual Commonwealth Day service which was held at Westminster Abbey on March 14th in the presence of Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, William and Kate and Princess Alexandra.
A joyful celebration, it was once again a resounding success bringing together artists and performers from around the globe. With performances by Mica Paris, Emeli Sande and the London Gospel Choir, the lesson was read by the Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the address given by the ex-Archbishop of York, LordJohn Tucker Mugabi Sentamu, Baron Sentamu PC. The event also included a procession of flag bearers representing the 54 Commonwealth nations, a third of world’s population. It was broadcast on BBC 1 and BBC World Service and is now available on BBC iPlayer – A Celebration for Commonwealth Day
