Alan Howe, the new branch secretary

We would like to announce the appointment on June 12th of our new branch secretary Alan Howe who will be retiring from my post as Head of the Department of Education and Childhood Studies at Bath Spa University in July 2019. In total he has taught at Bath Spa University for 26 years in posts related to teacher training and education studies.

He first came to Bath in 1978, graduated from Bath University in 1982 with a degree in Biology and has worked and lived in the area for many years. He began my career in education as a primary school teacher in Harrow, then Bristol and Bath.

He has  published widely in the field of education studies, science and technology education, creativity in education and primary-secondary school transition. He is a governor of a local primary school and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK).

His international experiences include working on projects in China, Zambia and Armenia.  He has worked with a teacher training college in Mufulira, Zambia since 2002 to develop a student and staff exchange programme. To date over 100 staff and students have taken part in exchange programmes between the two countries.

He is  keen to remain involved in my work in Zambia and contribute in other ways to those RCS values of human rights, democracy and sustainable development, especially through education and supporting young people.
