
Her Excellency The Honourable Margaret Beasley AC QC Governor of New South Wales visited Bathampton Church near Bath on June 19th to lay a wreath on the grave of Admiral Arthur Phillip, the first Governor of New South Wales. Accompanied by her husband Dennis Wilson also in attendance were Col Michael Miller and ADC Lt Commander Robert Valler RAN . Guests included the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Somerset Professor Ian White, the High Sheriff of Somerset Mrs Jennifer Duke, the Mayor of Bath Councillor Rob Appleyard, chair of Bathampton Parish Council and Anita St John Gray, Trustee of the RCS Bath and District Branch.
The Governor was shown around a standing exhibition of the life of Admiral Philip and entertained after the service to coffee by members of the church when she was able to find out more about Bathampton’s connections with Australia.
