A Heroes of the Commonwealth Service took place at Bath Abbey on 11th November in the presence of the new Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, Mohammed Sadiq, His Right Worshipful the Mayor of Bath, Councillor Rob Appleyard and the Vice Chancellor of Bath Spa University Sue Rigby.The service to remember twelve Heroes of Commonwealth also involved 44 AD Artspace and the Abbey. With contributions from the Military Wives Choir, twelve schools from around Somerset came together with relatives of the heroes, members of the services and the general public. The event was followed by a reception at 44AD when the children’s artwork was on display.
Those attending said afterwards that they were overwhelmed by the effort that had gone into both the service and the work carried out by the schools.
Brigadier Vikramjit Singh Gill from the High Commission of India made a special trip to the event so that he could lay a wreath and also meet with pupils of North Cadbury Primary School who during their research had been in touch with the High Commission.
Sue Rigby the Vice Chancellor of Bath Spa University said afterwards that she found it a very moving service, and the artwork was amazing.
