Members of the Bath and District Branch joined together with The Right Worshipful, Mayor of Bath, Gerry Curran and Commonwealth Scholars from the University of Bath and Bath Spa University on February 20th at a reception at the Mayors Parlour in the Guildhall. During the evening they had the chance to meet the mayor and learn more about his role in the city and investigate the many historic artefacts which are on display. These include, in the visitors book, an entry from one of the astronauts who walked on the Moon, Buzz Aldrin. Godfrey Hall the Chair also spoke about the work of the RCS worldwide and Bath and District Branch which provides substantial grants to Commonwealth students living and studying in the city who wish to carry out research and voluntary work in Commonwealth countries. Several of the students present had benefitted from these awards. Also present were the Reverend Robert Webb, Chair of the Bath branch of Royal Society of St George, Nancy Wise, the president of the Bath and County Club together with Janet Kirk from the Royal African Society.
